The Church of St. Mary was established in 1875 and the parish built a school, with five classrooms, in 1917. The third floor was used to house the original five Sisters of Mercy who taught at the school. Students were offered a two-year commercial course at the end of eighth grade until area high schools were established. Monthly tuition for the school in 1933 was $1.In the 1950s, eight classrooms, a library, gym and cafeteria were added. A new campus for pre-school through third grade was built on Everett Road near St. Patrick’s Church in the 1990s. The older students remained at the original campus.
